Description
Hand-written letters make up the bulk of the collection. The letters were primarily written by Bruce Richardson while he was living in the Philippines, from 1904 to 1941. Other correspondences were addressed to Bruce Richardson or referenced him in some manner. Also included are sketches, hand-written notes, announcements and photographs. The photographs relate to his stay in the Philippines. The bulk of the material corresponds to his time in the Philippines.
Background
Bruce Richardson, was born in Chico (California) in 1880 where he attended grade school. In 1901 he enrolled at U.C. Berkeley. In 1904 he moved to the Philippines, where he taught Mathematics and English for more than a decade. During his stay in the Philippines, he also worked for the McKinley Road Ranch, the Baguio Vegetable Exchange and a commercial hat maker. He moved back to Northern California in 1941, living there until his death in 1959.
