Biographical Note
Linda Levi is a Los Angeles-based artist and former teacher who is descended from the Newmarks and Nordlingers— two prominent
Los Angeles pioneer families. Born and raised in Los Angeles, she briefly attended University of California, Berkeley before
receiving her Bachelor and Master of Art from University of California, Los Angeles. Levi studied with Richard Diebenkorn,
Adolph Gottlieb, William Brice, Robert Cremean, James McGarrel, and John Paul Jones. From 1958-1969 Levi taught full and part-time
at several schools until becoming a Professor of Art at Cerritos College, where she retired from in 1998.
Linda Levi has won numerous awards and has participated in countless exhibitions, including the 1972 show Invisible/Visible,
a presentation of women's art shown at the Long Beach Museum that became the impetus for Womanspace, the first female cooperative
gallery on the west-coast. Levi was a member and sat on the Board of Directors.
