Dwaine Marvick was born in Northwood, Iowa on May 22, 1923; B.S., Government and History, Iowa State College (1946); M.A.,
Political Science, Columbia University (1949); Ph. D., Public Law and Government, Columbia University (1951); lecturer, political
science, University of Michigan (1953-1954); assistant professor, associate professor, professor in political science UCLA
(1954-1995). Initial research on the politics of Congressional appropriations was followed by research on: political activists
and municipal elections in Los Angeles, Calif. area (1954-1981); candidates for the Western Germany Bundestag funded by Ford
Foundation (1965); survey of the electorate in India and of Indian political activists (1967). Served on the governing board
of the Interuniversity Consortium for Political Research (1964-1967); fostered the use of computer technology in the analysis
of public opinion and voting behavior patterns; member, Research Committee on Political Elites of the International Political
Science Association. Marvick died February 25, 1999 in Los Angeles.
Scope and Contents
Collection consists of correspondence, computer codebooks, computer data printouts, course materials, election surveys, field
reports, notes, master reprint file, and publications. Includes questionnaires related to: Detroit Area Study (1964); Demographic
and Electoral Statistics in Los Angeles County (1963); India National Election Survey Project (1967); Municipal Decision Makers,
(1955-1961); and West German national elections in cooperation with INFAS, Institut fur angewandte Sozialwissenschaft (1965-1991).
