    Scope and Contents

    Original and reproduction prints depicting San Francisco and other places in California, including Alameda, Monterey, Angel's Camp, and Los Angeles, as well as the Comstock Lode in Nevada. Nearly half are 20th century facsimiles from John Howell Books, the California Historical Society, and other sources. Most of the original 19th century prints are in relatively poor condition with frequent tears and stains ; however in some cases these prints demonstrate variations not generally found in digitally available examples.
