Henry G. Blasdel was the first governor of the state of Nevada. Born in Indiana, he came to California in 1852. After living
in San Francisco, he moved to Virginia City, where he became a mining superintendent. Following service in the Civil War,
he was elected governor of Nevada and served from 1864 to 1871.
The collection consists of letters from Blasdel's term as governor of Nevada. Many of the letters are from Washington, D.C.
regarding education land grants, immigration, Native American disturbances in Humboldt and Lander Counties, and the organization
of the Nevada militia.
Processed by Huntington Library staff, circa mid-20th century. In 2020, Charla DelaCuadra created a finding aid derived from
a legacy summary report.
Arranged alphabetically.
