    Biographical / Historical

    Henry G. Blasdel was the first governor of the state of Nevada. Born in Indiana, he came to California in 1852. After living in San Francisco, he moved to Virginia City, where he became a mining superintendent. Following service in the Civil War, he was elected governor of Nevada and served from 1864 to 1871.

    Scope and Contents

    The collection consists of letters from Blasdel's term as governor of Nevada. Many of the letters are from Washington, D.C. regarding education land grants, immigration, Native American disturbances in Humboldt and Lander Counties, and the organization of the Nevada militia.
