Abstract: This folder contains a complied book of letters from the life of Milo Jasper Goss and Catherine Clark Everett Goss. Presented to The Society of California Pioneers in 1971 by their great granddaughter Mary Eldrige Fowler. The Letters of Milo Jasper Goss (1816-1856) and Catherine Clark Everett Goss (1818-1898)and were written between the years 1850-1851. The box includes typewritten transcripts of the letters of Milo Jasper Goss and his wife, Catherine Clark Everett Goss, during his travel via Panama and his stay there in 1850 and 1851. Catherine remained in Kalamazoo, MI during this time. He arrived in San Francisco in June 1850 and went directly to the mines (Oak Bar on the Yuba River). In January of 1851 he returned to Sacramento to take up the mercantile business. He travelled back and forth between Sacramento and San Francisco, settling in San Francisco in the winter of 1851. The letters describe business and life in San Francisco. The last letter is dated May 1 1852. the letters where written while he was in California During the Gold Rush, 1849-1853.
