Historical Note

The Hoover Street Commune was created to be the headquarters of the Los Angeles Gay Liberation Front, beginning in 1970. Located at the corner of Sunset Place and North Hoover Street in the Silver Lake neighborhood, the house was the site of GLF's weekly meetings. Williams, Don Kilhefner, Tony De Rosa, Lee Helfin, and Ray Powers were some of the core members who lived in the house, or were there on a daily basis. The Hoover Street Commune became inactive in 1971.
