Jerry enrolled at Great Lakes Christian High School (Great Lakes Christian College) in Beamsville, Ontario, Canada in the
Fall of 1959. He was a student there for three years (grades 11 through 13). His experiences at the school had a significant
influence on his later life. It was during his time at the school that he gave his first talk in daily chapel on October 8,
1959, and during his second year he began preaching for area churches. He also attended his first Bible Lectureship program
on the campus in January 1960, and it was at Great Lakes where he first became interested in the history of Churches of Christ
and the Restoration Movement.

He graduated with an A.A. degree in May 1963. Later, he became a part-time faculty member teaching Bible and church history,
and in 1970 he became the basketball coach, leading the MCC Warriors to two league championships.

Jerry's time at Pepperdine University. The series contains mostly papers about the various roles Jerry performed at Pepperdine
including running Bible Lectures, serving with Church Relations, teaching in the Religion Division, and his directorship of
the Rushford Center.

Scope and Contents
Pepperdine University's Annual Bible Lectureship began in 1943. Every year, church members are invited to attend several days
of classes and lectures on campus in Los Angeles (beginning in 1943) and Malibu (beginning in 1973). In 1982, Jerry Rushford
became director of the Bible Lectures. His tenure, the longest in Pepperdine's history, came to an end after 30 years in 2012.
The Bible Lectures sub-series contains material from Jerry Rushford's time as director, as well as some historical records
that he collected from before his tenure. The sub-series consists of mostly paper materials, with two CDs in the 2004-2005
photograph folder.

All of the folders are arranged chronologically, with the Feedback and General Correspondence also arranged alphabetically
by sender. An index of each sender can be found in the scope and contents note of each year.

This photocopy of the original map was sent to Jerry Rushford by Terry Gardner in April 2021.
The original map was sent to Yater Tant circa 1949. Terry Gardner obtained it in 2019 while helping David Tant (Yater's only
child) clean out his garage. Gardner had copies made and sent one to Jerry Rushford and two others to ACU.
Scope and Contents
The creator of the original map, Will Slater, was the maternal grandfather of William Slater (Bill) Banowsky, the fourth president
of Pepperdine University. Nelson Slater, who contributed supplementary material to the map, is Joseph Nelson Slater (1919-2000)
and he was the only son of Will Slater (who also had three daughters).
This is a photocopy of the original 1948 map.
