Scope and Content of Collection

The Lutherans Concerned/San Francisco records document the work of this chapter of the national LGBT Lutheran organization from its founding in 1975 through 2019. The chapter’s goals were to educate the church about gays and lesbians, develop a theology that included people of various “sexual life styles,” and create spiritual affirmation for gays and lesbians. The original order was maintained. The bulk of the collection consists of LC/SF “master files,” which were arranged chronologically. These files contain a wide variety of materials, including administrative records; brochures; conference materials; correspondence; executive and steering committee’s meeting minutes; financial records; mass mailings; materials related to the national organization, such as documents from the Lutherans Concerned/North America Assembly; membership materials; news clippings; newsletters; and reports. Though there are records from 1989-1991, the master files from those years are missing. The collection also includes subject files related to AIDS and other organizations that deal with LGBT issues and religion, such as the Council on Religion and the Homosexual. There is also a videotape produced by the National Lutheran Christian Ministry and audio recordings of lectures, panels and keynote speeches from LC Assemblies. There is also material related to Reconciling Works and Sierra Pacific Archives. GSSO Linked Terms: http://purl.obolibrary.org/obo/GSSO_007702
