Abstract: The University of California, Irvine
Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) was founded in 1980 and was designed to provide a
sense of purpose for African American faculty and staff on campus. The goal was to create a
presence on the campus that would be visible, supportive, nurturing and productive in
serving the needs of the African American community. Today, BFSA serves as a central point
of information exchange and a support system to the Black community at large which includes
students, faculty, and staff. The collection comprises bylaws, announcements,
correspondence, articles of association, fliers, reports, and newsletters.
