    Scope and Contents

This collection contains one letter written by E. "E.G." Gilliam, American Expeditionary Force to his family during the First World War. The letter was written Friday, February 22, 1919 from Flogny, France and the author, signed "E.G", refers to himself as "Gilliam" on page six.
In the letter, Gilliam is cynical about the situation in Europe and in America. He mentions that no one knows when they will be going home even though the war has been over for four months. He also expresses dismay that people back home are living in increasing comfort while the two million men still abroad don't have basic necessities, and not to believe anything read in the papers about the A.E.F.
