Paula J. Clayton was born in 1934 and was a psychiatrist and educator. BS, University of
Michigan, 1956; MD, Washington University, 1960. Intern, St. Luke's Hospital, St. Louis,
1960-61; Assistant Resident and Chief Resident in Psychiatry, Barnes & Renard Hospital,
St. Louis, 1961-65; Instructor to Associate Professor, Washington University School of
Medicine, 1965-74; Consulting Psychiatrist, Malcolm Bliss Mental Health Center, St. Louis,
1972-81 and Director of Training and Research, 1975; Professor, Washington University School
of Medicine, 1974-81; Director, Barnes and Renard Hospital Psychiatric Inpatient Service,
1975-81; Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, University of Minnesota, 1981- .
Lifetime Research Award, National Depressive and Manic Depressive Association, 1991. Member:
American Psychiatric Association (fellow), American College of Neuropsychopharmacology
(fellow), Psychiatric Research Society (President, 1977-78), American Psychopathology
Association (president, 1980-81), and the Society of Biological Psychiatry (president,
1986-87).
