is comprised mainly of portraits of American shipping industry administrators. The collection has been processed to the Series
level and is open for use.

Photographs were received by processing staff in folders labeled: "People A-D," "People E-O," "People P-" and "Container ships,
etc., circa 1980s". The photographs from the folders marked "People" were put into Series 1. Items from the other folders
were put into Series 2. Processing staff maintained the general order of the Items. The photographs of individuals were received
mostly in alphabetic order, and processing staff refiled the few photographs that were out of alphabetic order. The Items
in Series 2: Ports, vessels, and other photographs, were grouped by location and then alphabetized by processing staff; the
remaining photographs were left in the order that they were received and placed at the end of Series 2.
The descriptions in this collection guide were compiled using the best available sources of information. Such sources include
the creator's annotations or descriptions, collection accession files, primary and secondary source material and subject matter

The collection was donated in 1999 by the creator to San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park including photographic
prints, negatives, press releases, a drawing, and a transparency, all pertaining to intermodal shipping.
Historical or Biographical Note
Gail Elizabeth Neira owned and operated "Transport 2000 and Intermodal World Magazine," published by DeLong Publishing Co.,
Novato, California, from 1983 to 1984.
Neira was born on July 12, 1947, in San Francisco. She married Daniel Frank Delong in 1978. She has been a newspaper and magazine
publisher. The Transport 2000 was a bimonthly magazine first published in the 1970s. According to her account, she was the
first, and at the time, only Hispanic female to own a shipping publication. She has been a member of Charter 100, a professional
women's group, and has received a Small Business Administration Outstanding Business Award.
Neira is also active in grassroots political organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area. She ran for State Assembly in 2002,
2004, and 2006; is a co-founder of the Bay Area Lincoln League Political Action Committee; and is the standing president since
1999 and chief event coordinator for the San Francisco Republican Alliance. She notes that she has authored America's first
book on political and grassroots etiquette.
Additionally, she has been an on-air host, producer, and commentator for radio and television shows in the San Francisco Bay
Area.

is comprised mainly of portraits of American shipping industry administrators. The collection has been processed to the Series
level and is open for use.
Contains photographs of American shipping industry administrators and other photographs pertaining to intermodal shipping,
circa 1973-1985 (bulk 1980-1985). There are black-and-white and color photographs of various sizes, as well as one drawing.
This collection primarily contains many portraits of executives and upper-management personnel from various intermodal shipping
companies in the United States. These are primarily "headshots" which were likely used for publicity. There are also photographs
of United States ports and container ships, all pertaining to intermodal shipping. Additionally, there are photographs of
the Flying Tiger fleet (air freight carrier), Thomas B. Crowley speaking at the U.S. Maritime Academy in New York, an unidentified
man painting a freight container, and an ink on glassine drawing of freight containers.
Most of the photographs in this collection were used in the publication "Transport 2000 and Intermodal World" magazine. The
bimonthly magazine was first published in the 1970s and was purchased and operated by Gail Neira, DeLong Publishing, Co.,
from 1984 to 1986. Intermodal transportation is the delivery of goods or passengers through multiple modes of transportation.
The goods are most often containerized and are transferred at intermodal terminals. The most common forms of transportation
are by container ship, railcar, and tractor trailer.

Series 1 are in alphabetical order by the person's last name. The photographs in Series 2 are arranged alphabetically by geographic
location, followed by unidentified ports and miscellaneous photographs at the end.
