Some items are advertisements for the Oude Kunst gallery in The Hague, Gustav Cramer's gallery in Berlin and Max Cramer's gallery in Kassel. Present is a printed anouncement of an exhibition organized by Curt Valentin of artworks by Henry Moore at the Buchholz Gallery (folder 16), and several typed or handwritten lists of artworks with prices (folder 18). Also present is a plan of an appartment executed by hand in pencil and watercolor (folder 21), and printed ephemera from the time of the Third Reich (folder 22).

Scope and Contents

The materials in this group date from 1873 to the late 1990s and include predominantly personal documents of the various members of the Cramer family, such as passports and other identification cards, school records, legal documents, and family photographs. Also present are lists of artworks from the private collections of Hans Georg von Arnim, Meta van Dam, Eisenmann-Schneider, and the Henschel family; several architectural plans by Giachem Arquint; a collection of newspapers and magazines predominantly from the time of World War II; a collection of press clippings; and papers documenting an exhibition held in 1939 at the G. Cramer Oude Kunst gallery in The Hague of artworks by the Hungarian artist István Zádor. Several files document Hans Max Cramer's community and professional engagements in urban development initiatives in The Hague, the Rotary Club, and CINOA [Confédération Internationale de Négociants en Oeuvres d'Art]. Personal family photographs are also present. Various notes and other printed matter ar filed at the end.
Filed with this group are numerous invoices and a few commission agreements which at the gallery were not filed together with the Accounts files (Series II.A.). Present are several prewar and wartime invoices and commission agreements, including invoices written to the art historian and Nazi agent Erhard Göpel and to the director of the Dresden Gemäldegalerie Hans Posse who was in charge of collecting artworks for Adolf Hitler's planned art museum in Linz, Austria, the so-called Sonderauftrag Linz.

Most documents are from the 1930s and the 1940s. Well documented is Gustav Cramer's exclusion from the Reichskammer der Bildenden Künste in Berlin. Also present are several statements written by various people in 1945 regarding Gustav Cramer's conduct as a Dutch citizen under the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Included are personal medical records.

Included are, among others, Hans Max Cramer's school diplomas; several letters received from Harald von Majewski; documents regarding transfer of ownership of the gallery in 1941 and in 1961 after the death of Gustav Cramer, typescripts of articles written by Hans Max Cramer, and a legal document from 1976 signed by Hans Max Cramer and his wife Ada. Some items from the time of the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands document Hans Max Cramer's participation in the obligatory Reichsarbeitsdienst (Reich Labour Service). Several small photographs taken at the labour camp are present.
