Description
The University of California, Irvine Police Department (UCIPD) scrapbooks include collected newspaper articles, clippings,
and photographs about the department from 1992-2004. Other materials include a folder about the University of California Police
Department (UCPD) history, early maps of UC Irvine's campus, and one plaque awarded to the UCIPD CSO Program by the California
College & University Police Chiefs Association in 2002.
Background
The University of California Police Department (UCPD) was established as a state law-enforcement agency by the Regents in
September 1947. University of California, Irvine, Police Department (UCIPD), also commonly referred to as UCI Public Safety,
is responsible for the public safety and well-being of the UCI campus including the UCI Medical Center. It has five separate
public safety functions: Patrol, Administration, Emergency Management, Communications Unit, and Investigations.
