Abstract: A short history of the founding of Vanguard, an organization for LGBT equal rights that also served LGBT youth in San Francisco's
Tenderloin District, written by its founder Adrian Ravarour. It recounts the connections between Vanguard, Glide, and other
organizations. It also notes individuals prominent in Vanguard's formation such as Reverend Laird Sutton and Reverend Cecil
Williams, followed by Reverend Ed Hansen, JP Marat, and Reverend Larry Mamiya. The appendices include photocopied documentation.

Adrian Ravarour is the founder of Vanguard, an organization for LGBT equal rights that also served LGBT youth in San Francisco's
Tenderloin District. He led the organization until May 1966. Vanguard continued under new leadership and was reorganized in
January 1967 as a nonprofit organization affiliated with Glide Church. Vanguard dissolved while awaiting grant funding that
was released in November 1967. The Hospitality House was established to continue Vanguard's mission.
