This collection contains three correspondence written by Private First Class Jim E. Mulligan, Jr., United States Army to his
Aunt Virginia and her family of Corry, Pennsylvania. Mulligan was part of the 133rd Engineers Detachment in the United States
Army. Mulligan was based at Vung-Tau 40 miles south of Saigon. He describes building water towers and heliports. He was later
located at Duc-Pho and attached to a unit that supported the 101st Airborne Division.
In his letter dated June 29, 1967, he describes his impression of the local population: "The people here aren't really much
different from any other people from other deprived countries. I don't really trust any of them because I can't really tell
who's who, the V.C. from the South Vietnamese that is."
