    Biographical note

    John L. Webster immigrated to the United States from Scotland in 1897. It appears that John was a judge and had a wife, Nellie B., and a son, William (Bill), who was born in 1914. The family resided in Malibu, California. The John L. Webster Elementary School in Malibu was named after the former judge.

    Scope and Content

    The collection consists of correspondence, photographs, and financial documents belonging to the Webster family of Malibu, California. Included are letters written by William (Bill) Webster to his parents while at Urban Military Academy or Camp Curry in Yosemite; several Urban Military Academy publications; a diploma from Winchester Junior Rifle Corps presented to Bill Webster; a program from a horse show put on by the Urban Military Academy; a receipt and invoices regarding rent on a Las Flores property in Pacific Palisades; the financial ledger of John and Nellie Webster; a notice from Los Angeles Waterworks and Utilities; and several unidentified photographs of a work environment.
