Abstract: This collection contains 10 diaries documenting the life of Roberto Jesus Vargas from 1978 to 1996. Vargas was a community
and AIDS activist in Sonoma County and a columnist for "We the People." Born in Cuba in 1954, Vargas was sent to live in Florida
in 1960 and was raised by his aunt and her female partner. He was a longtime Bay Area resident, having lived in San Francisco,
Marin and Santa Rosa. Vargas died in 1997. There are also some miscellaneous writings and biographical material.
