Scope and Content of Series

Series 1) CORRESPONDENCE. Arranged in two subseries: A) Incoming Correspondence, and B) Outgoing Correspondence. Inclusive dates range from 1981 through 2007.
A) Incoming Correspondence: Handwritten and printed letters, cards and notes from friends, family members, colleagues and publishers. Arranged alphabetically by correspondent.
B) Outgoing Correspondence: Correspondence by Mark Salerno sent to friends, family members, and colleagues. The earlier material includes typescript drafts of his letters, while later correspondence is primarily printouts of email threads. These files were kept in the author's original chronological order.

Scope and Content of Series

Series 2) WRITINGS. Arranged in four subseries: A) Poetry, B) Radio Plays, C) Essays, Reviews and Interviews, Etc., and D) Works by Others.
A) Poetry: Includes handwritten and typescript drafts of Mark Salerno's poems, drafts and proofs of his published books, chapbooks and poetry anthologies. Notable works include Being Like This, Entertainment Tonight, For Revery, Hate: A Book of Poems, Matters, Method, Odalisque, Paint it Black, So One Could Have and When I'm Gone. Arranged in alphabetical order by title.
B) Radio Plays: Includes typescript drafts of scripts Salerno wrote for Hollywood Entertainment Radio from 1983 through 1984. Arranged in alphabetical order by title.
C) Essays, Reviews and Interviews, Etc.: This subseries includes Salerno's handwritten notes on various ideas and themes; drafts of essays and other critical works; Salerno's English translation from the Italian of "The Buried Port" by Giuseppe Ungarretti; and the author's publication files, including his poetry submissions and acceptance and rejection letters. It also includes some interview materials, such as transcripts, audiocassette recordings and a written interview by Mark Salerno of Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blonde; and a few recorded radio interviews of Salerno wherein he discusses his poetry and the founding of ARSHILE: A Magazine of the Arts. Arranged in alphabetical order.
D) Works by Others: Includes writings by Dore Ashton, an excerpt from John Laskey's The Monster, a novel; Paul Zollo's radio plays with Mark Salerno's notes; and other materials.
