Record Series 59 contains agendas, minutes, and reports generated by the University of California Academic Senate, Southern Section between 1933 and 1963.
Background
The Academic Senate was codified in 1920 and an unique part of the University of California system. It serves as a "vehicle" through which the faculty participates in the shared governance of the university. The Senate is composed of "ladder-rank" (tenured or tenured-rank) faculty and the deans, provosts, chancellor, and president of the university.
