Description
The City of Santa Barbara Community Development Department records span 9 linear feet and date from circa 1925 to 1975. The
collection is composed of selected architectural drawings of city plans and landscape designs, as well as presentation drawings,
maps of Santa Barbara, an environmental impact report on downtown cumulative traffic dated 1982, and small zoning maps.
Background
The City of Santa Barbara Community Development Department is responsible for planning, zoning, building and safety, planning,
design review, and historic preservation for the City of Santa Barbara. The department is divided into three branches: the
Building & Safety Division; the Administration, Housing & Human Services Division; and the Planning Division. Its mission
is to “assist the public in managing the development of the community in order to protect and preserve the quality of life,
promote a sound economic base and appropriate design, and ensure safe construction, all in balanced with the constraints of
the City’s environment and resources”.
