Immediate Source of Acquisition
The manuscript portion of the collection was transferrd from the Chicano Latino Research
Center in 2016. The digital portion of the collection was transferred in 2018.
Historical Note
The Research Center for the Americas (RCA) (previously the Chicano Latino Research Center,
CLRC) was founded in 1992 by Pedro Castillo and Norma Klahn, faculty in the History and
Literature Departments with ties to (what was then) the Program in Latin American Studies.
The RCA has helped make UC Santa Cruz a vibrant hub for Latin American, Latino, and
migration studies. Drawing from and bringing together the social sciences, humanities, and
arts the CLRC explores the diversity of the Americas, with a focus on the mobility of
people, ideas, and commodities.
The mission of the RCA is to support Latin American, Latino, and migration studies at UC
Santa Cruz. To do so, it has awarded research fellowships and grants to UC Santa Cruz
faculty and students; supported research clusters comprised of UC Santa Cruz faculty and
students; sponsored conferences, institutes, lectures, workshops, and film screenings;
published working papers and reports; and hosted visiting scholars.
Scope and Content
The records of the RCA highlight the productive potential of cross-border perspectives
linking the Americas and the evolution of the fields of Latin American and Latino studies.
