Immediate Source of Acquisition
The Pat Yankee Traditional Jazz Collection was acquired by the Stanford Archive of Recorded
Sound from Pat Yankee in 2020.
Arrangement
This collection is organized into four series: Sound recordings, Music scores, Promotional
material and ephemera and Photographs.
Biographical / Historical
Pat Yankee (1927- ) is an American jazz and blues singer and songwriter. Yankee began
performing at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco at thirteen and was touring as a teen
with the Ted Lewis review and Milt Britton Comedy Band. She is the recipient of the Bay Area
Critics Award for Best Female in a Musical for her performance in "To Bessie, With Love,"
and has been a recording artist with record lables RCA, Roulette and GHB.
Yankee frequently collaborated with San Francisco based jazz trombonist and bandleadeer
Turk Murphy starting in 1958 when she joined the Turk Murphy band. Together they performed
in music venues Easy Street, the Italian Village, Earthquake McGoon's and the New Orleans
Room in the Fairmont Hotel.

Scope and Contents
This collection contains sound and moving image media, music scores, photographs, a
scrapbook, promotional materials and other ephemera relating to the musical career of jazz
singer Pat Yankee dating from 1953-2016.
