Station, and materials related to the publication of Boyce's memoir,
Odyssey of an Entomologist: Adventures on the Farm, at Sea, and in the University.

Provenance unknown for the majority of the materials. Boyce's Leica camera donated by Charles D. Field, date unknown.

Processing of the Alfred M. Boyce papers was completed by undergraduate students from the University of California, Riverside
as part of the Special Collections & University Archives Backlog Processing Project started in 2015. This project was funded
by the UCR Library and administered by Jessica Geiser, Collections Management Librarian.
Biographical Note
Alfred M. Boyce was born in Maryland on May 2, 1901. He attended St. John's College for one year in 1919 before working as
a crewman on a number of ocean liners and freighters. He went back to school in 1923, attending Cornell University for his
bachelor's and master's degrees.
In 1927 Boyce received a position at the Citrus Experiment Station in Riverside working on entomological research, and earned
his doctorate in entomology from UC Berkeley in 1931. Boyce became Head of the Division of Entomology of the Citrus Experiment
Station in 1940, and rose to be the Director of the Citrus Research Center and Agricultural Experiment Station in the 1960s.
In 1960, Boyce also became Dean of UC Riverside's new College of Agriculture. He retired from the university in 1968, and
passed away in June of 1997.
During his lifetime Boyce developed a national and international reputation for his work in the field of entomology, and received
awards from numerous groups and societies. In 1977 the UC Riverside Deparment of Entomology established the Al Boyce Lecture
Series, followed by the Alfred M. Boyce Chair in 1984. He also has a building on the UC Riverside campus named for him, the
Alfred M. Boyce Hall.

The collection includes materials from Alfred M. Boyce, an entomologist and first dean of the University of California, Riverside's
College of Agriculture. Items in the collection include agricultural research, photographs, information on the Citrus Experiment
Station, and materials related to the publication of Boyce's memoir,
Odyssey of an Entomologist: Adventures on the Farm, at Sea, and in the University.

Series Scope and Contents
This series consists of personal and professional materials related to Alfred Boyce's career and research on agriculture and
entomology. Materials in the series include agricultural research data, articles on the Citrus Experiment Station, and photographs
of plants and the activities of the UC Riverside Agricultural Advisory Council. The series also includes a scrapbook of articles
and certificates from Boyce's career, his 1926 Cornell University yearbook, and the Leica M2 camera Boyce used in his field
work.
