This collection consists of 85 manuscripts from the Selby Family of Biddlestone in Northumberland, England. The manuscripts
are from the 13th to 17th centuries, and consist primarily of legal documents, indentures, and material related to real estate.
Some of the manuscripts have intact wax seals.

Biographical / Historical
The Selby family of Biddlestone is a branch of the Selby family, English gentry from Yorkshire and Northumberland. The Biddlestone
branch was granted the manor of Biddlestone, a small village in the parish of Alwinton, Northumberland. In 1796 Biddlestone
Hall replaced the old manor house. The Selby family owned Biddlestone Hall until 1914, and the Hall was demolished in 1957.
