    Abstract: Bob (Robert G.) Thompson (1934-) is a California-based wine writer. He is the author or co-author of several books on California wines, and the author of the San Francisco Examiner's weekly wine column from 1970 to 2000. His papers include correspondence, manuscripts, published writings, menus and invitations to California wine events, reference files, ephemera, and a small set of materials related to Mr. Thompson's professional activities as a whole.

    Biography

    Bob (Robert G.) Thompson (1934-) is a California-based wine writer. During his forty-year career, Thompson focused on California wines with an emphasis on wine as a beverage to accompany food. He is the author or co-author of several books on wine, including Pocket Encyclopedia of California Wine, Wine Atlas of California and the Pacific Northwest, and The California Wine Book (with Hugh Johnson). Bob Thompson is perhaps best known as a wine journalist: most notably, he wrote the San Francisco Examiner's weekly wine column from 1970 to 2000. Thompson has also written for Decanter, Sunset Magazine, the Slow Food publications Slow and Slowline, California Magazine, and American Wine and Food: The American Institute of Wine and Food Monthly among many others.

    Scope and Contents

    The collection includes correspondence; draft manuscripts; articles written by Bob Thompson, including an extensive set of articles for the San Francisco Examiner; menus and invitations to California wine events; reference files on California wine and wineries; ephemera; and a small set of materials related to Mr. Thompson's professional activities as a whole.
