The Delta Kappa Gamma Society National is a professional honorary society of women educators. It was founded on May11, 1929 by twelve women in Austin, Texas. The first chapter to be initiated outside the United States was in British Columbia, Canada, making Delta Kappa Gamma into an international society. The Delta Omicron chapter of Chico, California was established on April 27, 1957. Charter members to the new chapter, Delta Omicron, were: Patricia Ball, Muriel Bernard, Vivien Browning, Evelyn Clark, Zuola Foster, Edith Kunkel, Daisy Marley, Hattie Morgue, Marie Noonan, Eileen Partington, Lucille Reinero, Anna Bucker, Marguerite Speegle, Erma Dillard, and Helen Lough. Other well known members include Phyllis Bush and Janet Turner. Delta Omicron frequently met with the Oroville, California chapter, Alpha Nu. Members of Delta Kappa Gamma International were often deeply involved in their communities, and Delta Omicron chapter members were often featured in local newspapers for their non-society activities and achievements.
