Biographical/Historical note

Edgar Bissantz was born in Wichita, Kansas on August 8, 1901. He attended Cornell University where he studied architecture. Following school Bizzantz traveled extensively in Europe, visiting Italy, France, Germany, England, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, and Turkey. After Bissantz’s European travels, he found work as a designer in the United States under the Californian architect Roland E. Coate and then for the architecture firm of Allison & Allison. Circa 1935, Bissantz joined forces with H. Roy Kelley and H. G. Spielman to form Kelley, Bissantz and Spielman, Associated Architects. By 1939 Bissantz was the Master Planning Architect for the San Francisco City Planning Commission. Bissantz retired in 1962 and died in 1998.

Scope and Content note

The Edgar Bissantz photographs collection spans 1 linear foot and dates from 1935 to 1936. The collection is composed of interior and exterior photographs of the John R. Little Residence (La Canada, California) and the Vernon Larsen Residence (Chapman Woods, California), both designed by Bissantz.
