Scope and Content Note

Bill files authored by Denise Moreno Ducheny may include bill analyses, amendments and resolutions, author’s statements, testimony, press releases, correspondence, editorials and clippings, committee statements and other information.
SB1347 (2003-2004) contains a compact disc on SIMNSA Healthcare. SB463 (2005-2006) includes a compact disc containing a PSA titled “South Bay Expressway, put the fun back in driving!” These digital materials have been removed from the collection to be stored in the proper environment for preservation. Separation sheets will alert researcher to any removed items.

Series 2 Subject Files 1992-2010

Scope and Content Note

A file structure has been imposed on the material during processing because there was no apparent preexisting file structure.
The material consists of background information such as articles and other information documents. The material within these subjects consists of letters to Ducheny from constituents on political issues, legislative information on bills of interest, articles, and correspondence for organizing events.
This record series contains information about bilingual learning, adult education, education, Latino Caucus material, budget, border schools, tribal compact, legislation, and housing. All audiovisual material has been removed from the collection to be stored in the proper environment for preservation. The eight cassette tapes are labeled as Radio Noticias Universidad de California and are arranged chronologically from Jan to July of 1998. The single compact disc is labeled as PVH Attorney General Notice, 2006. Separation sheets will alert researcher to any removed items.

Scope and Content Note

This record series contains letters by former Los Alamos Lab employees concerning rehiring, and hearings to discuss concerns over Los Alamos Lab’s management. These letters were written in response to a series of layoffs in 1995 that prompted discrimination allegations. The California State Budget committee was called in to address these allegations since the Los Alamos Lab was directly managed by the University of California. Also included within the collection are news files concerning the Lab.

Series 4 Joint Legislative Audit Committee Files 2007-2010

Scope and Content Note

The Joint Legislative Audit Committee files contain audit request information prepared by the California State Auditor’s Office for the members of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) to review at audit hearings. With this information the committee can either approve, deny retain or refer the audit. Each of the audit requests includes background information covering the context as well as the scope and objective that the audit aims to achieve. Also, included in the request is the total budget of the agency under review and the estimated labor cost of performing a full audit.
Ducheny became a member of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee (JLAC) during the 2005-2006 legislative session and remained until the end of her term as State Senator. The JLAC works independently and through the California State Auditor’s Office, responsible for overseeing the operations and finances of government and publicly created entities. JLAC reviews and acts on audits submitted by members of the Legislature. The hearing files are the prepared analyses of the California State Auditor’s Office for the review of the Joint Legislative Audit Committee.
