Mary Rook Lyerly brother, Brutus Watkins Rook, Jr., was killed in action and buried in a cemetary near Saint-Avold, France, next to the German border.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains two correspondence written to Mary Rook Lyerly during the Second World War. Both letters, one written by Johnny Newsome and one by Jonathan Ursomarso, are about the death of Lyerly's brother, Brutus Watkins Rook, Jr., who was killed in action on 29 November 1944 near Saint-Avold, France. Newsome's letter describes his death and burial and Newsome's search for his grave, while Ursomarso's letter only expresses condolonces for his death.
