Scope and Contents
Notes on lectures by Nathaniel Potter, professor of the principles and practice of medicine at the College of Medicine of
Baltimore, were transcribed in a neat, legible hand by medical student James R. Mitchell. Some lectures are numbered and dated.
The student records "Dr. Potter thinks ..." or "Dr. Potter supposes ..." throughout, and contrasts his professor's opinions
with those cited from the opinions of Rush, Pattison, Cullen, Brown, and Darwin. Two texts are written dos-a-dos in two series.
The title page for the Fall/Winter 1825-26 course (labeled "Series 1" by the cataloger) is torn away and mostly wanting; the
stub identifies the transcriber, John R. Mitchell. Its paste-down identifies, in pencil, the location as "Baltimore, Maryland"
and the lecturer, "Potter." "Series 2", from June 20th through July 1826, is titled "Notes from a summer course delivered
by N. Potter, M.D."
