Description
Collection reflects the life of work of Maximino "Max" Limon Atilano. A resident of Escondido for over 75 years, Mr. Atilano worked for the Escondido Lemon Association as a foreman, was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, and was leader of local band, "Max Atilano and his troubadours."
Background
Maximino "Max" Limon Atilano was born in 1900 in Jalisco, Mexico and settled in Escondido by the age of 15. Starting as a citrus grove laborer, Mr. Atilano eventually became a field foreman for the Sunkist Lemon Association. Heavily involved in the local Knights of Columbus for more than 70 years, Mr. Atilano was equally passionate in music and played classical violin. As leader of "Max Atilano and his troubadours," he composed the music that the band would play at local festivals and celebrations. Mr. Atilano died in 1992.
