Description
The papers mostly comprise research information on Peter Lassen, complied by Ruby Swartzlow.
Background
Ruby Johnson Swartzlow, born in Wisconsin, received her M.A. degree in American History from the University of Missouri. She married her husband, Carl Swartzlow, in 1925 and a few years later the couple moved to California where Carl became a park naturalist at Lassen Volcanic National Park. Ruby began research on Peter Lassen during this time. The couple moved to Paradise, California in 1955 after Carl retired from the park service. Ruby began to write a book on Peter Lassen in the 1960s while also teaching a course on Northern California history in the Adult Education Department at Paradise High School.
