Abstract: This collections consists of 3/4" U-Matic and Betacam videotapes containing airchecks and raw news footage created for broadcast
by KEYT-TV (1982-2010). Material includes local, regional, and national stories, televised special events, national and local
sports coverage, and news magazine programs.
Physical Location: Boxes 1-148 are located at the Southern Regional Library Facility (SRLF).
Donated by KEYT-TV, 2016.
Audiovisual materials must be reformatted for access.
Property rights to the collection and physical objects belong to the Regents of the University of California acting through

The materials have been divided into the following series/subseries, based on the type of programming and content: Series:

Series: Santa Maria Daily News footage (1994-1995). Series: Subject files (1980s-1990s). Series: KEY Issues (1985-1986). Series:
101 (1986-1991). Series: Sports, Sub-series: Local and National Sports Coverage (1980s-1990s); Sub-series: Friday Football
Focus (FFF), Sub-series: UCSB. Series: Santa Barbara Fire Relief telethon. Series: Subject files (1980s-1990s). Series: Ventura
Bureau (1990-2010).
This collection is comprised of U-Matic and Betacam videotapes containing airchecks (newscasts) and raw news footage (individual
stories) created for broadcast by the Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and Ventura Bureau offices of KEYT-TV, from 1982 to 2010.
News footage contains local, regional, and national stories. Local and regional daily news footage includes both Santa Barbara
(1982-1995), and Santa Maria (1994-1995).
The collection also contains news magazine programs, such as "Key Issues" (1985-1986), and "101" (1986-1991), and sports coverage,
both national and local. Local sports coverage includes "The Friday Football Focus" (FFF).
The news magazines "Key Issues" (1985-1986) and "101" (1986-1991) contain complete broadcast episodes covering events and
topics important to the Central Coast. Sports material includes the local "Friday Football Focus" (1990-1996), national and
local sports (1990-1995), and UCSB Sports (1990-1994). Also included are "Subject Files" (1980-1995) which are compilation
tapes created by the station to hold content related to a specific "Subject" and organized alphabetically by the subject of
their contents (e.g., "F" for fire).

KEYT news film collection, FMST 7, Department of Special Research Collections, UC Santa Barbara Library. This unprocessed
collection contains 16mm news film dating from the early 1960s through approximately 1981. It is currently closed to researchers.
Not included in this collection are materials created by KEYT sister station KCOY in Santa Maria or materials created by KEYT
before 1982 or after 1995. Post-1995 materials shot on Betacam or Digital Video remain with the station.
A portion of the collection has been digitized. Digital reproductions are available electronically via request to special@library.ucsb.edu
KEYT News video archive videotape logs
This PDF contains information transcribed from story logs, which were contained in cases from some of the items in Series
1: Santa Barbara Daily news footage, Subseries: Air Checks 1982-1985. These logs contained information about the original
item, including the tape ID assigned by the station, the broadcast date and time, runtime, and story title (or "Slug") which
is a brief 1-3 word description of the content of the story.
This information was transcribed from handwritten notes which have not been corrected for spelling or grammatical errors.
In addition, there is no key provided for common broadcasting acronyms or internal abbreviations (e.g., "WX" for weather or
"FOLO" for a follow-up story).
