    Biography / Administrative History

    Henry Fitch Hubbard was born in Charlestown, New Hampshire and eventually settled in Stockton, California in 1850. Hubbard first came to the Pacific Coast on a whaling ship, and was a shipmate to Herman Melville. He was one of the earliest residents of Stockton and one of the wealthiest. He married Maria Slater Debnam in 1867, and they had two daughters Maria "May" and Eliza. Henry Fitch Hubbard died March 25, 1887 at the age of 66. May Hubbard married Adelbert Cronise of Rochester, New York in April 1898, and Eliza Hubbard married Walter W. Middlecoff of Los Angeles, California in 1900.
