    Biographical / Historical

    Private Román Samano (1844-1902), a native of Mexico, moved to Santa Barbara in the 1850s. During the Civil War, he was a member of Company “C,” first battalion of the Native Cavalry of California Volunteers under Captain Antonio de la Guerra.

    Scope and Contents

    This document describes the discharge of Roman Samano from the 1st Battalion of the Native Cavalry of California Volunteers. The document is dated 2 April 1866 and is signed by Captain Antonio Maria de la Guerra.
