Description
This document describes the discharge of Roman Samano from the 1st Battalion of the Native Cavalry of California Volunteers
at the end of the Civil War.
Background
Private Román Samano (1844-1902), a native of Mexico, moved to Santa Barbara in the 1850s. During the Civil War, he was a
member of Company “C,” first battalion of the Native Cavalry of California Volunteers under Captain Antonio de la Guerra.
