Abstract: The Noe Valley Community Archives was started in 1979 but became inactive shortly afterwards because of lack of members. The
group restarted in 1988 with its first meeting at the Noe Valley branch library. Paul Kantus served as president.
Physical Location: The collection is stored off-site.

The collection is available for use during San Francisco History Center hours, with photographs available during Photo Desk
hours. Collections that are stored offsite should be requested 48 hours in advance.
Publication Rights
All requests for permission to publish or quote from manuscripts must be submitted in writing to the City Archivist. Permission
for publication is given on behalf of the San Francisco Public Library as the owner of the physical items.

Conservation Note
During processing, part of the collection was re-foldered and re-housed in acid-free folders and boxes. Some metal staples
remain.
Materials Transferred
Photographs have been transferred to the San Francisco Historical Photograph Collection. Newspapers and periodicals have been
transfered to San Francisco History Periodicals and Newspapers.

The Noe Valley Community Archives was started in 1979 but became inactive shortly afterwards because of lack of members. The
group restarted in 1988 with its first meeting at the Noe Valley branch library. Paul Kantus served as president.
The collection contains materials from the East and West of Castro Street Improvement Club (formed 1902), Friends of Noe Valley
(formed 1971), the Noe Valley Community Archives (formed 1979), the Twin Peaks Improvement Club (formed circa 1911) and the
Upper Noe Valley Neighborhood Council (formed 1958). Many individual community members also donated materials.
Scope and Content
The collection contains meeting minutes and membership ledgers for the East and West of Castro Improvement Club, Newsletters
for the Friends of Noe Valley, resource files for the Noe Valley Archives, a membership roster for the Twin Peaks Improvement
Club, meeting minutes and newsletter for the Upper Noe Valley Neighborhood Council, scrapbooks, photographs, videos and artifacts.

The collection is arranged in 5 series: Series 1: Clubs / Associations Resource Files, Series 2: Scrapbooks, Series 3: Photographs,
Series 4: Video, Series 5: Artifacts.
