Historical Background
UCI Stories was initially created in conjunction with the UCI Libraries' 50th anniversary historical documentation project.
UCI Stories facilitated 50 discussion pairings of over 100 campus leaders, faculty, staff, alumni, students, community members,
and other difference makers representing the diversity of UCI in the broadest sense. Planning for UCI Stories began in 2013
and included consultation from the 50th Anniversary Committee. The goal of the project was to capture voices and stories not
yet part of the university archives. The structure of the conversations was based on StoryCorps. The collection was later
expanded to include other UCI Libraries oral histories, which continues the work of the 50th anniversary historical documentation
project into the future.
