Description
The Monterey Peninsula Branch, (MPB), of the American Association of University Women, (AAUW) was founded in 1928 and has been active since the 1940’s. Monterey Peninsula Branch is committed to intellectual growth, advancement of women, equity for all women and girls, with positive societal change.
Background
The American Association of University Women was founded in1881, by Ellen Swallow Richards and Marion Talbot, who wanted a way for university educated women to meet and network with their peers. American Association of University Women advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. The Foundation also funds pioneering research on women, girls, and education. The AAUW Legal Advocacy Fund, a program of the Foundation, is the United States' largest legal fund focused solely on sex discrimination in higher education. AAUW also sponsors a student leadership conference, designed to help women college students access the resources, skills, and networks they need to lead change on campuses and in communities nationwide.
