Biographical / Historical
Private Robert Bryon Fincher, United States Army (7/15/1917 - 11/2/1984) was born to Pearl Fincher (father's name unknown)
in Milan, Dodge County, Georgia. He worked as a farmer for R.J. Studstill with only a fifth grade education in Rhine, Georgia
when he married Alberta B. Brown on March 7, 1942. He enlisted in the United States Army on October 10, 1942 and was sent
to Camp Wallace, Texas. He served overseas in countries including Germany, France, Italy, and South Africa. He was discharged
September 25, 1945. After the war, Robert and Alberta lived in Thomaston, Georgia until his death in 1984. They had one daughter,
Myrtle Ann.

Content Description
This collection contains correspondence from PFC Robert B. Fincher, USA to his wife Alberta B. Fincher during the Second World
War. The letters range from February 1942 to August 1945.
He wrote during his time overseas. He enlisted in October 1942 and was sent to Camp Wallace, Texas. He was stationed in North
Africa and Sicily during 1943. He was was stationed in France and Germany from 1944-1945. He wrote in many of the letters
to Alberta about his love for her. He wrote about how he wished he could be home with her and how he could not wait to see
her again. Included are lines from poetry he authored and small photos of himself. Some correspondence from Alberta's brother
Jeff is also included. Also included are photocopies of a chapter from Salerno to Florence and a photocopy of Pvt. Fincher's
military identification.
