Gift of Ted Atteberry. Accession number: 2006.56
This collection consists of an album with photographs and newspaper clippings on the opening of the Westchester Skateland
roller-skating rink at 1112 West Manchester Boulevard, Inglewood, California. The location borders the Westchester area of
Los Angeles; hence this geographic designation was used for the rink's name. Brothers Roy and Bob Wetherbee leased the rink,
which they closed in 1959 because the open-air rink could not draw enough customers in bad weather. Besides the album there
are loose photographs and clippings in folders, including a copy of the letter from the proprieters stating why they could
no longer afford to run the rink. The collection's materials document skaters at play, both at night and during the day.
The Westchester Skateland album is stored in one flat oversized box, with loose materials stored in folders.
