Custodial History
The Library's
Daily Bruin subscription was mircofilmed beginning in the 1980s-1990s. The Library stopped microfilming new issues in the early 2000s.
Processing Information
Collections are processed to a variety of levels depending on the work necessary to make them usable, their perceived user
interest and research value, availability of staff and resources, and competing priorities. Library Special Collections provides
a standard level of preservation and access for all collections and, when time and resources permit, conducts more intensive
processing. These materials have been arranged and described according to national and local standards and best practices.
The microfilm was digitized by the Internet Archive in the 2000s.

Biographical / Historical
The
Daily Bruin is the student newspaper at the University of California, Los Angeles. It began publishing in 1919, the same year UCLA was
founded. The
Daily Bruin was preceded by
The Normal Outlook on the campus of UCLA's predecessor, the Los Angeles State Normal School, from 1910 through 1918. Over the years it went
by
Cub Californian (1919-1924),
California Grizzly (1924-1926),
California Daily Bruin (1926-1943, 1944-1948),
California Bruin (1943-1944), and
UCLA Daily Bruin (1948-present).
The
Daily Bruin is published by the ASUCLA Communications Board. As of 2021 its office is located in Kerckhoff 118, where about 500 students
work in 17 editorial sections to produce the paper each day. In addition to about 9,000 copies of each daily print issue are
distributed at dozens of locations across UCLA, The
Daily Bruin runs
PRIME, a quarterly culture and lifestyle magazine, and
The Stack, a data journalism blog providing a quantitative look at the news. The
Daily Bruin also founded and operates bruinwalk.com, UCLA's professor and apartment review website.
