Historical Note

In the late-1970s, gay rights pioneer Harry Hay and his partner John Burnside were among the co-founders of the Radical Faeries, a "New Age tribal spiritual movement" that organized gay consciousness-building retreats in scenic natural settings. A New York City group formed, circa 1979. Throughout the 1990s, the group distributed the newsletter, Faerie Gram.
