    Scope and Contents

[Carole Nelson is the recipient of these letters, not the author]
This collection contains 23 letters from two soliders, Larry Waggoner and Paul Sweet, writing to Carole Nelson (now Carole Nelson-Meyers). A majority of the collection was written by Waggoner.
Larry Waggoner was a radioman in the 3rd Recon Force. In one of Larry's letters, dated 18 July 1968, he described how there's a bounty on his head, along with his fellow soldiers. The North Vietnamese Army offered a $50 reward for any member of the 3rd Recon Force brought in dead or alive. The donor of the collection states that he was in the battle of Quang Tri, Da Nang, Cua Viet, Khe Sanh, and Dong Ha.
Paul Sweet was a sailor who worked on the USS Canopus (AS-34), a submarine tender that supplies and supports submarines.
