Background
The Farwell Grant was a five-league area of land, west to south-west of Chico (California), granted to individual land developers in 1863. The Danish tract, located in the north-east section of the northern half of the Farwell Grant, was first developed in 1869 as a farming colony for Danish immigrants. The colony did not continue past 1870 and the land was sold to local developers.
