Biographical / Historical

Mary ("Mollie") Wilcox Stoddard (later Mary Wilcox Hurd) was born in Placerville, CA in 1870. After the death of her first husband, Frank Stoddard, she married state senator Henry M. Hurd (who passed away in 1927). Mollie passed away on January 19, 1929 in Los Angeles. In an inscription inside the front cover of the scrapbook dated 1924, Mollie indicated that she wished the scrapbook to be sent to the Pioneer Lodge in Placerville. According to the El Dorado County Historical Society, Mollie built the Lodge and presented it to the Placerville Shakespeare Club (of which there is a postcard in the papers). [See http://www.eldoradocountyhistoricalsociety.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/September-2001.pdf]. Mollie was a long time supporter and president of the Los Angeles Florence Crittenton Home.
