The collection is organized into five series: West Coast Regional Office records, California regional and local branch records, NAACP publications, 2nd Annual Youth Conference scrapbook, and newspaper clippings.

Scope and Content of Collection

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Collection includes newsletters, brochures, pamphlets, newspaper clippings, convention programs, ephemera, scrapbooks, and records created by national, regional, and local California branches of the NAACP. The collection is organized into five series: West Coast Regional Office records, California regional and local branch records, NAACP publications, 2nd Annual Youth Conference scrapbook, and newspaper clippings. The West Coast Regional Office records include assorted press releases, memoranda, training workshop manuals, publications and annual convention records. Most of the notes and convention records were collected by Tarea Hall Pittman.
The California regional and local branch records are mostly various flyers, newsletters, invitations, and pamphlets created by local and regional branches of the NAACP in California. Materials are organized alphabetically by branch and chronologically thereafter. The scrapbook contains telegrams, correspondence, programs, flyers, and newspaper clippings documenting the 2nd annual youth conference held in Oakland, California in July, 1942. Material in the collection was collected by the East Bay Negro Historical Society.
